Different Types Of Garage Doors And Their Repair

Lack of attention from government authorities has lead garage door industry to a downfall in the past decade. There is only thing which has revived this industry and that is technology. With the help of new technology many newer types of garage doors have been introduced in the market. In the past there was just one type of garage door and that was also manual while these days there are lots of garage door types available and you can avail these door types in both manual and automated operation. Garage doors can be categorized on the basis of two factors which are technology and material but I will categories them here on the base of technology.

First type of modern garage doors is overhead garage door which consists of a one big panel of wood or any other material. Overhead garage doors are further divided into two types which are canopy and retractable while these two are also same in appearance but they differ in their opening and closing approaches.Requirement of extra space is common in all kinds of retractable garage doors.Their big panel requires opening with a big swing either inside the garage or in front of garage. This extra-large swing needs some extra space in either front of your garage or inside the garage and makes them perfect for bigger garages.

A second type of garage doors is sectional garage doors, and unlike overhead doors, these are made of small sectional blocks. these doors consist of normally 8-10 small sectional blocks but there can be more depending upon the size of the door. You can avail these doors in any material but metals are more preferred in this type of garage doors because it is easy to make metals in small blocks. This door type has also got further types but they are not much different.

In one types of sectional doors drum rolling mechanism is used to open and close while in the other types all of its sections are folded on each other.Sectional doors with drum rolling mechanism are more popular. One thing is common in all types of sectional doors that they are best suitable for smaller garages as they need no extra space for opening and closing.

All of the above garage door types are very heavy and bulky, and their normal weight is in hundreds of pounds. This heavy weight of these doors makes them very much open to faults and they always need regular maintenance to stay fit and in 100 percent working condition. maintaining professionalism is necessary in repairing these doors whether you perform this maintenance at your own or hire someone professional.Even a single loose screw can make your door work improperly.

What Kind Of Garage Door Is The Right For You?

Based on the style of home and offered budget, you will find some options available for a garage door to help protect the contents. Doors will be made of wood, a thin outer layer of wood or vinyl and filled with an insulating material or can be as cheap as lightweight fiberglass, simply to close the hole in the front of the structure. Designer doors are also available that replicate wood grain as well as other building materials to help the general appeal of the house fits into its environment.

The kind of garage door on the building as a personal selection, however the majority of doors are built in panels, designed to roll up with all but the lightest doors using springs to assist with the weight of the door. Other garage door designs let them to open as a single panel or as two separate doors that open similar to a regular door by swinging on hinges.

For the most convenience, a garage door opener is frequently applied to let the door to be opened by pressing a button on a remote control device from inside the vehicle so the homeowner does not need to get out of their vehicle and wrestle with a garage door in inclement weather. Single buttons set up somewhere within the keypad controls or garage can also be connected to the garage door to allow the opener to work.

Opting for Door Will Depend On House and Environment

With many selections offered in various garage door designs including the door security hardware for your garage, it can be somewhat tough to select the good door. Bearing In Mind that wood doors can be heavier and harder to close and open manually, they are often considered in areas where the climate is colder. They help insulate the interior of the garage, which is important to garages attached to the home.

For detached garages the selection of a heavy door may be designed more for security than insulating qualities, but also those with an automatic opener needs to be fitted with combination door locks to better keep undesirable persons getting access to the home or contents through the garage door. Keeping a garage door is not that difficult and if small cracks develop in the joints or in areas where the hardware fastens to the door are corrected rapidly, they are easier to fix without a lot of expense. Maintaining the tracks for the garage door clean and greased will also make for better use of the door, requiring less effort to open and close the door.

Using Car Canopies For Storing A Vehicle Outdoors

Part of owning a car is keeping it in as best of shape as possible. If you don’t have a garage, however, what should you do about protecting your vehicle? Car canopies are an all-around solution. With protective properties to keep out the UV rays and water and a sturdy design, these portable shelters can be placed anywhere and are an affordable alternative to constructing a brick-and-mortar building from the ground up. Before you run out and purchase bricks and mortar and draw up building plans, think about your storage needs.

Car canopies are composed of two parts, a galvanized steel frame and a polyethylene top. The polyethylene is treated to be UV resistant, waterproof, mildew resistant, and rot proof. The frame, additionally, is strong enough to withstand heavy snow and high winds. With a valance or enclosed style, car canopies also allow moisture to not be trapped inside, preventing dry rot, mold, or mildew from forming on the surface of a vehicle.

These shelters give homeowners the convenience of a dry car every morning, no matter the weather outdoors. In the winter, in particular, this means never having to dig out your vehicle from several feet of snow. But the canopies provide additional properties that contribute to the long-term maintenance of any vehicle below. As UV rays and water can damage the surface of any vehicle, the canopy keeps them out and reduces any damage a car or other vehicle would experience if kept exposed outside.

No garage shouldn’t mean no protection. Car canopies, additionally, have another asset: mobility. Although the shelter should be anchored into the ground while in use, it can be taken down and put in storage or moved to another location. Designed to handle the elements for several months at a time, a car canopy is a semi-permanent structure that offers the owner multiple storage options.

Choosing The Right Garage Door To Fit Your Home and Budget

The damage isn’t too bad, it’s mostly just an unsightly dent. However, you soon notice that the impact has caused a gap between the bottom of the door and the asphalt. And you dread to think of all of the little critters that would love to scurry under that gap to live in your nice, climate controlled garage. You begin to think to yourself, “Well, that door was pretty old anyway, I could probably stand to purchase a new one.” But there are a few things you may want to consider before just hopping down to the hardware store and choosing any one.

When it comes to choosing a garage door, there are a number of different options. As far as material, you will likely choose between a wooden door, an aluminum door, or a fiberglass door. Before you go about choosing from those styles, there are a number of questions you might ask yourself. First, what type of material was your old garage door made from, and were you satisfied with it? Next, you might want to consider which material is going to be most aesthetically pleasing in comparison to the rest of your house. And finally (and this is the ugly one), how much money are you willing to spend.

Many people find wooden garage doors to be a great bet. Wooden doors are the most customizable of the bunch, as they come in many different designs, and are able to be painted. Some find it easier to match a wooden garage door to their style of home as compared to other types of doors. They are also very good when it comes to insulation. As wood is a very dense material, it is able to hold in heat or cold naturally better than other materials.

However, a wooden door is not without it’s drawbacks. While the density of the wood means good news when it comes to insulation, it may also require bigger and more expensive springs to open it, or may even require a strong motor to open it automatically. Wooden doors are also typically more expensive than other materials. Wood is also a bit more difficult to maintain, as it requires painting, sealing, and staining.

Aluminum garage doors are perhaps the least expensive of the bunch. Basic aluminum doors usually cost under $1,000, sometimes a little more if you opt for an insulated door. Determining whether or not to opt for the insulation all depends on what you use your garage for. If you simply use your garage for tools and perhaps automobiles, you may find that you don’t have much use for an insulated door. Also, aluminum garage doors are considerably lighter in weight than other doors, thereby ensuring that you probably won’t need a very heave-duty opening mechanism to lift your door. Aluminum doors are also fairly easy to upkeep, as they don’t require very much maintenance.

Finally, you may consider fiberglass for your garage door. Fiberglass is a fairly light material, which shouldn’t put too much strain onto your opening mechanism. Another benefit is that fiberglass can be designed to look very much like wood, which many find to be the most attractive material for a door. These doors can also be fairly dent resistant, as well as easy to clean and maintain.

They are typically less expensive than other materials as well. There are also several cons to a fiberglass door. First off, fiberglass is considered to be a fairly bad for the environment once disposed of. There have also been a number of reports about fiberglass doors warping and cracking, especially in extreme temperatures.

When it comes down to it, it’s all about your personal and financial preference. There is no shortage of options when it comes to choosing from the variety of garage doors made available to consumers.

Garage Door Opener Installation In Few Easy Steps

The process of garage door opener installation is usually straightforward, though manufacturers and parts may vary. Since these openers are generally installed by the consumer, installation instructions are clear. Parts are labeled to ensure easy assembly.

This process should only take a minimal amount of time and your opener will be fully operational.

Assemble the Opener

Lay out all parts as the instructions indicate. Parts are usually stamped or may contain lettered stickers. The first step is to assemble the rail. Next you will attach it to the opener’s motor head. Once the opener has been completely assembled, the final step is installation.

Attach the Rail to the Header

To perform this step, you will need an 8-foot ladder. Raise your garage and mark it at the highest point. Close the garage door.

At the site of the mark, measure up two inches. The bottom of the header bracket will be placed here, over the center of the door. Place the header bracket on at the second mark and secure it with two wooden lag bolts.

With the motor end on the floor and the rail inside the header bracket, line up the opener assembly on the door. You will need to line up the holes on the rail with the header bracket. Slide a clevis pin through the bracket and rail to attach.

Mount the Motor

Place the ladder at the back of the door tracks, in the center. Place the motor on the ladder. Slowly, raise the garage door until it comes in contact with the door. As you continue to open the door, the motor assembly will be lifted off the motor. When the door is fully open, place a 2×4 between the opener rail and the door.

To do your garage door opener installation proper, you will need to fasten the hangers to the motor head into the ceiling stuffs. Using the instructions and hangers provided, attach them to the ceiling with lag bolts. After attaching the hangers, lift the motor head and bolt it to the ceiling hangers.

Simple Carport Plans – 3 Super Tips For a Successful and Simple Carport Plans Project

Simple carport plans really saved me time and money on my last building project. Over the years the garage has become a museum of collections completely filling the space. The car now has to sit outdoors! The problem is that the car is now exposed to the rain, snow, sun and all the birds and animals that consider the car looks like a shiny bathroom!

Carports are very useful structures for protecting cars and recreational vehicles. Sun can ruin the paint on your car and make vehicles boiling hot during summer. Snow becomes a danger to your vehicles in winter. Both the sun and the snow will take a toll on your car. Carports are normally built alongside the home. This can make access to a vehicle easy in bad weather. But they can also stand on their own as free-standing. Anyone with a little building and carpentry knowledge is able to build a carport by following simple plans. Keep in mind the following 3 tips when you’re planning your carport:

1.Wind Pressure

A carport has to stand up to heavy wind loads. Without walls to block out the wind the roof acts like the wing of an airplane. The upward wind pressure can pull off the roof completely. Unless it is designed to be anchored firmly to the ground it might fly off under heavy winds or storms

2.Snow Loads

Snow is another serious consideration in the design of simple carport plans. Without the correct design and build the entire structure could collapse under the pressure of thousands of pounds of weight due to snow. Good build plans will ensure that the design is load balancing and won’t crack under all the pressure.

3.Quality Plans

You may already have experienced the same problems as myself! Before I started a lot of building projects but gave up frustrated as I had not budgeted properly or had the wood cut correctly. All in all, it’s a sensible idea to get yourself a good set of plans to work from. On the surface a carport may seem like a simple project but it still requires good planning and budgeting.

With good quality simple carport plans this time, I was able to make sure I bought the right materials in the right quantities from the outset. An accurate materials list also helped me estimate a cost budget even before I started the project.

Also, quality plans should include step-by-step instructions, detailed blueprints and photographs clearly showing each step. Really good plans will also include basic woodworking and carpentry techniques.

Creating Free Storage Space in Your Home

So you’ve finally decided that it is time to stop piling things up in corners and get organized. You need to maximize your space and find solutions. Now is the time to get busy and get your usable square footage back. The first thing you need to do is determine what to keep, what to trash and what to donate. After you have made this determination, it is time to take inventory of the storage space in your home.

Do you have an attic, a garage or a basement? These are places where you can house the things you would like to keep if the humidity and other factors make them suitable for storage. You will need to put the items into clear plastic containers with labels. This will keep moisture from getting inside of them. By doing this, you will also be able to reference your items when you need them.

If you do not have a basement, garage or an attic, you can create the space. Look into your largest closet and determine if you have additional space at the bottom or top. If you look at the top of your closet, chances are that you can go up higher with storage. Take advantage of it and place your containers on the top shelves. There is available space under the bed that is often overlooked. You can find storage space in the kitchen too. Think about moving things around in the bottom cupboards or perhaps checking the pantry. You may find extra square footage there that you had not banked on.

So you have looked all over the house and you still cannot find any place to unload a single container? Take a look at the walls. You can store all of the containers against a single wall. Make it more visually attractive by using modular wall storage units and putting your items in decorative plastic boxes or baskets. Alternatively, you can pile the containers up the wall in a uniform fashion, making sure that the labels are facing out, and drape curtains over the front of them to create the illusion of a bank of windows. By searching in odd places and utilizing the walls, you can create usable storage space which you had no idea that you had.
